WSL TEAM OF THE SEASON PREDICTIONS

With the addition of female divisions in the game we expect the main divisions to have their own sides included meaning the number of players in packs practically doubles each week. Starting off we have the WSL and with it being a two-horse race it comes as no surprise to see both Manchester City and Chelsea dominate proceedings.

Khiara Keating - GK - 60 > 91 OVR

While players who end up making TOTY rarely miss out on the corresponding TOTS there is a strong case for Earps to miss out. That’s thanks to the 19-year-old Keating. It's the youngster's first full season for Manchester City and she has taken it superbly. With just twelve goals conceded, she is part of the best defence in the division and her performances between the sticks have seen her receive an England call-up. Keating will inevitably be one of the biggest base card upgrades as we transition from 24 to 25.

Niamh Charles - LB - 80 > 91 OVR

The defensive records of the top three highlight the gulf in quality between the two halves of the table. Niamh Charles should walk into this squad after contributing at both ends of the pitch. Chelsea having conceded just fourteen from eighteen matches obtain the second-best defence in the division while also providing a goal and five assists.

Alex Greenwood - CB - 83 > 93 OVR

Talking of great defensive records Manchester City boasts the best with only twelve going against them so far. Greenwood has been at the heart of that defence. With multiple offensive threats standing out, I would expect City’s defensive inclusions to be limited despite their record. Greenwood will not be one who misses out though.

Jess Carter - CB - 78 > 92 OVR

With Millie Bright missing the majority of the season through injury it left a big gap in the Chelsea backline. It’s something they overcame well however with Jess Carter stepping her game up. With less than one per game conceded on average, it comes as no surprise to see a couple of inclusions from Chelsea’s defence.

Katie McCabe - RB - 85 > 93 OVR

McCabe has played in various positions throughout the campaign but with the majority of her matches being played from the right-hand side I would expect her inclusion to come as an RB. The Irish international is another who offers contributions at both ends of the pitch with her versatility making her a key asset to the Arsenal squad.

Chloe Kelly - RW - 84 > 94 OVR

The Manchester City front line has been prolific to say the least this season, averaging just under 3 a game. So it comes as no surprise that I have all three included in this side. While Kelly has been the weakest of the three she will still inevitably be included. The winger is a big name in the sport and with five goals and four assists to her name has respectable figures alongside that.

Erin Cuthbert - CDM - 83 > 93 OVR

In terms of in-game cards, this one looks special with high stats all over for a CDM. Cuthbert holds the captaincy for Chelsea and dominates in the middle of the park. While the Scottish international does a lot of the dirty work she also chips in with her fair share of goals, sitting on four for the season so far.

Lauren James - CAM - 83 > 95 OVR

Arguably the most familiar face in the WSL is James. Her performances for both Chelsea and England have caught the eye for both good and bad reasons. The level she can reach is extremely high though and after featuring in four promotional sides already it’s clear to see that James is used among the community. The Versatile midfielder has scored thirteen times and while she has been deployed in several different positions it is the CAM role I would expect the base position to be.

Lauren Hemp - LW - 86 > 94 OVR

Another familiar face from the WSL, largely due to that popular playstyle plus, partially in the early game, is Lauren Hemp. The Manchester City winger has played her part during their title challenge with nine goals and four assists to her name so far. With just four games remaining both City and Chelsea remain level on points.

Elisabeth Terland - ST - 73 > 92 OVR

The big four will likely dominate this side, but Brighton’s Terland has made a strong case for her inclusion. With twelve goals in eighteen appearances, she is a large reason as to why they are not battling relegation as it stands.

Khadija Shaw - ST -85 > 94 OVR

The Golden Boot race in the WSL has been a solo race with Shaw dominating throughout. The Jamaican striker has a very respectable 19 to her name, six ahead of second-placed James. Averaging just over one per game Shaw is among the easiest selections for this squad.

Substitutes

Lotte Wubben-Moy - CB - 79 > 90 OVR

Despite Arsenal’s impressive defensive record, their backline has changed regularly throughout the campaign. Wubben-Moy has been an ever-present part however and with the Williamson injury, it's been big shoes to fill. Appearing in all 17 of Arsenal’s matches so far I feel she edges it over the more familiar face in Ilestedt.

Beth Mead - RW - 87 > 93 OVR

With a large number of your usual WSL stars missing out due to injuries impacting their game time those who played have a higher chance regardless of how they did. I would say Mead’s performances have been lower than what she has historically managed but would still be classed as a fringe option on paper. Her four goals and three assists from the wing could be enough for her to sneak in.

Jill Roord - CM - 86 > 93 OVR

The only real debate here is if Roord has played enough to be considered. After suffering an ACL injury in January the Dutch midfielder was ruled out for the rest of the campaign. With eleven games to her name, she managed exactly half the season. Due to the contribution during that time, I can see her making the side. With Six goals and two assists, she played a crucial role during the initial title charge.

Grace Clinton - LM - 69 > 89 OVR

A name to remember now with Grace Clinton making her breakthrough with Tottenham. Expect to see the 21-year-old midfielder playing for her parent club, Manchester United, next season after several dominant displays this season. While four goals and three assists doesn’t sound a lot you have to remember that their season is significantly shorter. Clinton has received a call up to the national side while being tipped to be a crucial part of the set-up for the next decade.

Ella Toone - CAM - 83 > 92 OVR

The first of two United players making this side is Toone. With five goals and four assists so far the English midfielder has been a consistent threat going forward for them. I would expect one of Toone or Zelem to end up receiving the nod. With Toone being the more recognisable name I have opted for her,

Nikita Parris - ST - 81 > 91 OVR

With United currently sitting fourth in the table you would expect at least a couple to make TOTS from a squad of 18. Without obvious candidates the selection was difficult but there have been numerous occasions from which Parris has decided the result of matches. With eight goals to her name, she currently sits 6th in the Golden Boot race.

Alessia Russo - ST - 84 > 91 OVR

When it comes to strikers in the WSL there are very few which have stood out from direct goalscoring numbers. For that reason, it leaves the door open for the likes of Russo to sneak in. With six goals and four assists the Arsenal forward still contributes over a goal every other game and with her being a familiar face in the WSL it helps both parties.
