Back for Round 2 with FUT Future Stars this week and with Round 1 already a knockout with Curtis Jones… it provided the opportunity to look at one of the cheapest cards I have reviewed in a while… FFS Jonathan David. If you follow me on Twitter: @IVIaeNine then you probably guessed this review was coming but might be surprised by the results. While Central Canada experienced a cold snap this past week that saw temperatures drop to as low -50 °F | -45.56 °C (lower with the wind chill) there was nothing chilly about Jonathan David’s performance over this past weekend. This card has to go down as one of the most intriguing reviews and price points that I have witnessed, period. Hopefully, over the course of this review, I can shine some light on my experience… and what an experience it was. I immediately went with the FINISHER chemistry style to bolster the Dribbling and Finishing before setting Jonathan David loose in the 4-4-2 & 4-2-2-2 formations. David might have the friendly Canadian 28 AGGRESSION on the outside… but in-game he tore opponents apart for fun all weekend in the following squad:
If you have followed my reviews this year then you will know that this is not the normal order of things. Normally, I provide an overview of my rating at this point, while addressing the Value/Coins further into the review after discussing some of the players' statistics and attributes. But this couldn’t wait. 100k! … 100k! That is not a typo, I simply can not believe it. This has to be the best value for the card in the game hands down. I was floored when it was 200k, and now I am in utter disbelief. Just simply compare this card to Base Butragueno (950k) and it is eerie how similar they are. Yes, I am a believer that ICONs have hidden statistics.. but I have used Base Butra and I am not sold that I would take him over David, it is that close, but what isn’t close is their price tags. Maybe the league and nation caused many to not be interested in fitting David into squads? But even then the price is laughable and I must be missing something.
Main Attribute – Shooting
Shooting Rating: 9.5/10
Weak Foot: * * * * *
With 99 FINISHING, 95 SHOT POWER & 5 STAR WEAK FOOT it was no surprise that Jonathan David was able to fill the net consistently throughout the weekend. 27 goals in 20 matches is a quality return and in general, I found David to be clinical in the box when presented with chances. The precision on both feet was fantastic and there was no difference in the way that he struck a ball with either foot. The one and only negative keeping David from a full 10/10 would be his 77 LONG SHOTS and in general, he struggled from beyond 18 yards. While even some of my more adept long shot takers in my squad still struggle from distance in FIFA 21… David was particularly poor in this department.
Main Attribute – High/High Work Rate
Work Rate: High/High
Stamina: 94
Positioning: 90
Jonathan David was forever the man in motion this weekend and the quality of the runs he provides was noticeable. While I apply the Get in Behind instructions to my strikers in both the 4-4-2 and 4-2-2-2 formations… that doesn’t mean that they always do it. However, with David, he picked up on a lot of the cues and engaged perfectly when I was creating attacks. If you watch the video it is just a montage of David picking up the perfect areas to exploit my opponent, and then having the quality to reward the chances created. Everything about this card just seems balanced right to produce goals and for me, it all begins with his work rates and positioning… while his stamina lets him produce these movements all game long.
Good vs. Bad
Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5
13 assists in 20 matches brought David to a goal contribution average of 2.0 and while playing alongside EOAE Rooney helped, David still had to play the passes to make it happen. Honestly, I thought this might be an area of concern, but in the end, it was a non-issue with 86 SHORT PASSING doing the business throughout the weekend. Honestly, even the 83 STRENGTH with this card was enough to get the job done as there are seriously only minimal weaknesses to point out in David’s game. In the end, it will be the 3 STAR SKILLS that seals David’s fate in the minds of a lot of FUT Managers … but otherwise this card is well-rounded in the crucial areas for a striker in FIFA 21.
Closing Words
IFor 100k what do you have to lose? Honestly, when a review is this cheap in price it is difficult to justify the work that goes into it when most FUT Managers could just bring a card like David into their squads for minimal cost… and sell for minimal tax loss if it doesn’t work out. However, given the current price of this card, I feel like this review serves more of an opportunity to put the Canadian on the radar and let you know that this diamond in the rough exists and is a serious producer. Maybe the links are holding some back, but I can think of a lot of worse super subs than one with a 5 STAR WEAK FOOT and 90+ Pace, Shooting & Dribbling. If you have tried the Crazy Canuck let me know your experiences in the comments. Hoping you are safe and well. Cheers for reading.
Yes we are comparing him to the rat himself because thats who he will end up replacing in alot of peoples teams, first of all he is very well priced given his card stats and his strong links with losc lille doing bits in both ligue 1 and europa league. Meanwhile in game this guy is a machine but 1 aspect of his game stops him from being godly... He is rapid, extremely good at dribbling and has a knack for making really good runs to and away from the ball with his high/high workrates. Meanwhile he has the ability to hold up the play and win aerial balls on the near post from corners in a very ronaldesque sort of way defying gravity just this man is 5 foot 10 which makes it even more impressive... but that 1 main issue is that 1 star missing in the skill move category, if he had that then it would make all the difference, unfortunately what couldve been didnt come to fruition, now having 3 star isnt a deal breaker but it does make him feel clunky when executing skill moves but despite that, he is a phenomenal card and i have some gameplay/footage of him if you guys want to go out see for yourself what he is all about! (1) OMFG THE CANADIAN BEN YEDDER!?! 86 DAVID FUTURE STARS PLAYER REVIEW!!! Fifa 21 - YouTube
PACEEEEEE
Dribbling is next level *with complications*
Passing is incredible on both feet
High/High work-rates is perfect when he is fast to break the line and can hold up the play physically and distribute the ball with precision
Aerial Ability is unrivaled when you compare him to other players his height
Price is actually surprisingly good value for what you are getting in return
I used Jonathan David at the start of the game and loved his card, eventually my team got better and he didn't fit what I had but I bought his OTW in the hopes of a usable card in the future. After months of disappointment, I sold that card and moved on... until this bad boy was released. This card is crazy good. His price is so undervalued because of the links and the fact most people prefer Mbappe from Ligue 1.
I am in Div 2-3 (I float between both depending on what type of day i'm having) and since I got this card I haven't lost a rivals game. 6 games, 13 goals, 3 assists. Not the craziest on paper but for a striker with a partner it's great. He is genuinely fast, he feels nimble which I wasn't expecting and his shooting is crazy. I use an engine and I think it's perfect for him and I haven't considered putting any other chem style on him. Another thing that surprised me was his heading ability. The high jumping and heading accuracy combines for a striker that scores from corners. The one downside is obviously his 3* skills, A lot of people will see this as the deciding factor but I've surrounded him with skillful players and the ball roll he has combined with his crazy change of pace kills my opponents Varanes and Gomezs.
I sold a few players to afford this card, and I somehow managed to snipe him for 157k however i'd happily pay 300k+ for this card
He is a beast, he can perfectly shoot whit both feet (5 W*F*) he has really good positioning and every shot is a goal his stamina, jumping and heading helps a lot. He has like the non nerfed step over and really good bride and has a lot of speed
Oooooh my god.... I'm so excited to write this review for you guys. You are probably here to check out if he's good. Hold on there he isn't good at all. This guy is an absolute myth. Favorite players of this year for me. This guy made my mbappe look average. The only thing mbappe is better at is pace. David has the shooting of headliner ben yedder. The pace of Saint maximin. The dribbling of butragueno. For me this guy must be the best striker under 1.000.000 He has the best finishing i've seen, he's more clinical than wayne rooney's end of era card. His pace was just sensational to be honest in some situations he felt faster than mbappe for some reason. His passing is good for a striker. His dribbling felt really smooth. and his strength complimented that perfectly. He's really hard to get of the ball and somethimes just glitches through varane. I even played him at 6 chemistry so don't worry to much about the links. For me he scored 21 goals in 20 matches in weekend leage. So enjoy this card.
David destroyed centerbacks like Varane and Gomez IF, and scored and scored and scored.
I played him in a 4222 as a left striker next to Ronaldinho 91 with both on balanced instructions:
Pace:
His acceleration feels really good, but not top notch, the sprint speed on the other hand is cracked. Important is, that it only takes a quick moment to reach the top speed compared to Ronaldinho who is immediately on his top speed.
Shooting:
Whenever you’re in the box (and the angle is not too tight) you can shoot and he will definitely score - only curved shots aren’t that great. And 5* weak foot are simply great
Passing:
Honestly the passing is solid, but not the best. Short passing is good, but nothing more than that. Long passing lags a bit in my opinion.
Dribbling:
His dribbling is really good especially for the 3* skill moves, and if it’s okay for you not to really skill with him, you can have fun with body feints and step overs or ball rolls. He performs this all really well.
Defending:
Not a key stat for a striker, but he will get you some balls back if your opponent attacks.
Physical:
Really noticeable and really present on the pitch. In combination with his speed, its great that you can run through the insurmountable defenses like Varane, Gomez, Walker, etc. and also win duels while sprinting with the ball against Weekendleauge defenders like them.
All in all:
Jonathan David is a great combination of speed, strength and finishing. His shooting is so clinical that I’m just in love with this card, and also headers are possible with him.
I love to play with him, use his dribbling a bit, pass with r1 and run, get the long ball and score. And if there is really no chance to score, and you have to dribble, you can dance around your opponents defenders to get another shooting angle. His 5* weak foot will rescue you. I’m so exited about this card, that hopefully this review is not distort, but in my opinion he is the best striker to partner with a second one to have the variety of skills and pure scoring power.
Listen, this card for its value is absurd, for 100k this card has produced for me amazingly. He literally scores a hattrick every game, I play Yedder next to him and honestly, Yedder hasn't done anything in the last 30 ish games, it's completely Jonathan David. This card with a hunter has 99 pace and 99 accel and he blows by everyone. His dribbling is a little bit clunky but honestly he scores too much for me to care that much. I'd also like to note that this card is not good with skill moves, neither am I to be fair and he works perfectly for my play style. This card is 10/10 and for the value is ridiculous, he scores so so so much.
To start off, I'm talking about a BUDGET Mbappe, so don't think he will replace a Mbappe in your Squad. I played him ingame up top with Bellerabi Rulebreaker in a 4-2-2-2 and he plays somewhat of a hold-up striker. He is perfect for that because not only of his strength but also because of his passing. His passing is amazing and combine that with the fact that you can shoot/pass with either foot, that makes him unpredictable in the last third. That Weakfoot has to be mentioned too because trust me, just let him shoot. You get the ball, you shoot and in the back of the net. It's actually crazy. You don't even have to sub him off. He runs 90 or even 120mins for you. On the negative side you have the links but i had no problem putting him in a 4-3-3 with Bamba and Davies and you could link him with Sanches. Also, he just has 3 Star Skills, which explains his price but I don't skill a lot and so that didn't matter so much.
Pace
Finishing
Stamina
Bodytype combined with strength
Dribbling is so smooth
That Weakfoot omg
Links
Skills
have to boost finishing and pace (Hawk works just fine)
For me, he is a great card, he finishes nearly everything and can finish on both feet just as well with that 5*WF. His pace doesn't feel as fast as 94 pace but he still feels very fast on the ball and his dribbling is not the best but not bad, his skills are a let down but he does make up for it with his pace, finishing and the runs he makes. For the price he is an extremely undervalued and underrated card but if you have more coins just go for mbappe or ben yedder although he is a great cheaper option.
