On to the third round of the TOTS progression and it did not take long for the jury of public opinion to reach the verdict that the Bundesliga TOTS has already eclipsed the Premier League weekend. Frimpong alone was probably enough proof of that already, and then you add on the wide selection for reviews and it certainly speaks to the quality of the options this weekend.
Bit ironic that I hyped the Bundesliga TOTS only to turn around and review Victor Osimhen, but the popularity and ability to now compare to a similar style player from last weekend in Alexander Isak, certainly made this the best choice in my mind. If anything Osimhen also highlights one of the areas where EA got it right this promo in the fantastic chemistry that allows managers to really pick and choose which options make their squads.
Similar to Isak in that there was only one option for Osimhen in my 4-2-1-3 formation and similar again in that it was a bit difficult to select the right Chemistry Style. I opted for the ENGINE this weekend after re-learning my lesson last weekend, that the need for a central striker who can link up play with his/her passing is all but essential. Certainly some arguments to be made that the HAWK or even BASIC might be better suited, but the ENGINE checked all the boxes for me and with that the squad was complete and prepared for the Weekend League grind. Victor Osimhen was the man behind the mask all weekend long in the following squad:
Rating: 9/10
Difficult to say exactly how low the price for Osimhen will fall before we can properly compare the Nigerian forward to Alexander Isak… But if all things were equal, I am taking Osimhen in basically every situation over the Newcastle striker. Obviously the extra PlayStyle is working in Osimhen’s favor, but it was more than that as the slightly smaller frame made it even easier to get responsive dribbling out of the card. The 14 goals and 2 assists in 5 matches is on par as well and was a relatively accurate representation of the experience with Osimhen this weekend.
Main Statistic - Shooting
Shooting Rating: 10/10
Weak Foot: ★★★★★
PlayStyles: Finesse Shot Plus, Low Driven Plus, Chip Shot Plus, Power Shot, Power Header, Acrobatic
Traded the Trivella of Isak in for the CHIP SHOT Plus of Osimhen this weekend and again you just want the full set, but you can’t complain with what you do have with this card. Time and time again my opponents brought out keepers, time and time again Osimhen floated the ball beautifully over their heads and with perfect weight. I was missing the CHIP SHOT last weekend and certainly made up for lost time in this short review.
The 5 STAR WEAK FOOT, FINESSE Plus, & LOW DRIVEN Plus are going to have to become a staple combination in my strikers after two straight weekends of benefitting from that set up. If you can pick the right option then you are almost guaranteed to score, which is a great feeling compared to the uncertainty that comes with other strikers. The ENGINE obviously does not help shooting, but with 95 LONG SHOTS as the lowest statistical category it did not seem like Osimhen would require the boost and that proved true in the end.
My opponents were paying a bit more attention this weekend and really took away the corner attempts directed towards Osimhen. But the growing trend of opting for bicycle kicks instead of headers in the box on corners puts Osimhen at a solid advantage moving forward given his height and ACROBATIC PlayStyle… The POWER HEADER is there as well if you want to do it the old fashioned way.
Value/Coins
Value/Coins: 5/5
While I didn’t set out for this to be a large comparison to Isak, it is certainly starting to turn out that way. Obviously Osimhen needs to drop significantly in price (and there is really no reason why he shouldn’t), but given some of the benefits over the big Swede, I would say 1.7-2 million would feel more than fair. As it stands I wouldn’t say Osimhen is quite worth the 3 million coin price tag, but given the sudden and continuous drop that hits TOTS cards nearing the end of Weekend League, it is only a matter of time.
Good vs. Bad
Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5
Similar to Isak, with some small but notable improvements…
+ QUICK STEP Plus with RAPID light is nearing perfect and caused a lot of issues for my opponents trying to contain Osimhen. I’ll add in the dribbling here as the ENGINE brings the AGILITY & BALANCE to 94 & 99 respectively and only adds to how good this card feels in game. Maxing the 99 SPRINT SPEED & moving to 98 ACCELERATION with the ENGINE are also huge to the overall feel of this card. The lack of 5 STAR SKILLS holds me back from the perfect rating, but everything else Osimhen does on the ball is class.
+ Another Physical card but not quite as bullish on the ball as Isak. Thankfully the Pace & Dribbling help avoid the need to be constantly in battles, but that is not to say that Osimhen cannot hold his own. The PRESS PROVEN PlayStyle at worst gives the illusion of strength and made Osimhen difficult to dispossess throughout the weekend.
+ Unlike Isak the Passing with Osimhen just sneaks into an overall positive. Again we have a card that would benefit (or perhaps be worth way more than I can afford) from Passing PlayStyles. The statistics felt a bit better in game as the ENGINE helps tip the scale towards calling Osimhen a good passer and link up target. Still a few moments where better Passing might have produced more contributions, but all in all Osimhen was able to handle the pressure of opponents while finding the right pass in key moments.
Closing Words
Lots of managers raved about Isak from last weekend and if you are one of them then I would highly recommend this card. Essentially just Isak 2.0 with basically all of the issues ironed out and a card that can produce some serious damage. Unfortunately it will also do some serious damage to your own coin balances as well at the moment, but in time I could see it settling a few 100k above Isak and then it becomes ridiculous value. Maybe not the Bundesliaga focus that one might expect… But certainly a worthy addition to the must try conversation that started Friday… Highly recommend this one.
Hoping you are well. Cheers for reading.
