DeanWith the group stage out of the way we say goodbye to the Make Your Mark promo and hello to another brand new promo in the “Greats of the Game” promo. This one of course themed around Icons and Heroes. A massive amount of incredible new cards have just dropped into packs with many I can only hope to get my hands on.
In the SBC section for today we have an absolute Great of the Game in none other than Wayne Rooney. He has bagged himself a 96 rated item with 4 playstyle+s and incredible stats to go with it. I sure am looking forward to this.

Worth noting that these items are also live cards and are based of course on their respective nations performance in the tournament. The upgrade path is as follows:
- Player’s Nation scores 2 goals in the EURO/Copa America (+1 OVR)
- Player’s Nation scores 4 goals in the EURO/Copa America (+1 PlayStyle+ or 99 Face Stat)
As much as I would love for this card to go up to a 97 rated with a 99-rated stat, sadly England's performance within the group stage has not given me much to hope for. But regardless, this card looks great. Compared to his previous Future Starts Icon card this item has a +5 overall and 3 more playstyle pluses in Finesse, Powershot, Dead Ball and swapping out the Trivela for Long Ball Pass.
Chemstyle of choice for this card would likely be the Engine as I feel this compliments him the best.

A lot to unpack here. I was expecting a hefty price for sure but 18 segments to complete in July is a little bit of a tough sell for me. The price tag seems to be slowly decreasing but he is currency settling at around 1.9 million coins to complete. A 1.6 million difference from his previous item. So to be worth it he is going to need to be incredible in-game.
How did he perform in-game?
+ Shooting on this item is absolutely clinical. Finesse, Power Shot or your standard shot across the keeper. He can do it all with ease.
+ Dribbling paired with the physical attributes worked wonders because he held his own on the ball very well and maneuvered around the opposition easily.
+ Passing on this card was also relatively decent for a striker. He laid out some nice assists through quick short passes through the defense.
+ Attack positioning was also impressive. He moved around into open positions constantly and put in high amounts of effort to get involved in the attacking play.
/ Despite the high pace stat, the stocky body type lets him down as he did not feel like an item with 97 pace.
Wayne Rooney - Cop or Flop?
Being a Rooney fan I absolutely wanted this to be a standout SBC that I could shout about, but unfortunately that price tag has hurt this SBC way too much. The community have spoken as currently fans have this at a 95% downvote and understandably so considering the price difference compared to the Future Stars Icon version. Sure this item is a +5 and has all those crucial playstyles, and earlier in the game cycle I would probably have been more likely to sway towards saying this one is a cop. But as fun as this item is, it’s just not worth the price. I’m sure there will be many more SBCs to come to hold onto your fodder for this one.
