Serie A is one of the only divisions with a competitive title race heading into the final stages of the season. Both Inter and Napoli will battle to lift the trophy, and that is reflected well in this TOTS prediction. There are notable names likely to miss out this year, but there are still plenty of usable players included, with the likes of Dimarco, Barella, Lookman and Thuram standing out.
Mile Svilar - GK - 75 > 91 OVR
We start the prediction with a difficult position. The goalkeeper spot could go a number of ways in Serie A, with several sides boasting similar defensive records. One keeper stands out slightly more for me and that is Svilar. Leading the way with thirteen clean sheets, the Serbian is currently in line for the Golden Glove. What really sets him apart, however, are his save statistics. With 112 saves, he has made the third most in the division, which is not something you would usually expect to coincide with the highest number of clean sheets.
Federico Dimarco - LB - 84 > 95 OVR
One of the first names into the side this year comes from left back, and it is not the usual Hernandez. Dimarco has been the best in this position by quite some distance. Not only have Inter conceded fewer goals than games played, but Dimarco also contributes significantly in attack. Four goals and seven assists are some very impressive numbers. With the FUT Birthday card setting a pedestal, this TOTS inclusion could be one of the best LB’s we have seen in FUT history.
Alessandro Buongiorno - CB - 80 > 93 OVR
Napoli have the best defensive record in the division, with just twenty-five goals conceded. At least one of their defenders will likely find themselves in this side as a result. Their main performer at the back has been Buongiorno. The Italian has really stepped up for Napoli this season and controls the backline superbly. Although he has missed a few games due to injury, with Buongiorno having one of the best average Gazzetta ratings, his position in this side is not in question.
Alessandro Bastoni - CB - 87 > 94 OVR
Considering Inter do not have the best defensive record in the league, it may seem a little excessive to include three of their defenders. However, I just can’t see any of the three missing out. Bastoni is probably the least nailed-on of the trio, but the Italian has been a huge part of Inter’s recent success, so it does not feel right to leave him out. He is also among the highest average ratings for central defenders.
Denzel Dumfries - RB - 82 > 93 OVR
Similarly to Dimarco, Dumfries dominates down the right-hand side for Inter, offering defensive cover alongside an attacking threat. The system Inter use really allows these wing-backs to excel. Dumfries also walks into the TOTS prediction having scored six and assisted another two. Even if Inter do not go on to lift the title, I would expect this side to include a lot of their players.
Riccardo Orsolini - RM - 81 > 92 OVR
The surprise package of the season has to be Bologna, who are currently battling for a Champions League qualification spot, with Juventus the likely side to miss out if they manage it. Orsolini has played a huge role in this push, scoring twelve goals and providing an additional three assists. With only a few wide candidates available for this side, Orsolini’s chances of inclusion are further strengthened.
Nicolo Barella - CM - 79 > 85 OVR
Barella is another Inter player who has firmly established himself among the elite. The Italian is one of the first names that comes to mind when discussing Inter’s recent success. While his attacking numbers of three goals and six assists are solid, it is his overall contribution that truly stands out. Barella orchestrates play from the heart of midfield, linking defence and attack while controlling the tempo of the game. Much of what Inter do flows through him, making him an essential component of their system
Andre-Franck Zambo Anguissa - CM - 80 > 93 OVR
Anguissa has narrowly missed out on a TOTS inclusion for the past couple of seasons, but the Cameroonian midfielder should be nailed on this time around. His performances have seen him awarded an official POTM inclusion, playing a key role for Napoli at both ends of the pitch. With six goals and three assists to go alongside his defensive strength, Zambo has been a force to be reckoned with this year.
Mattia Zaccagni - LW - 83 > 92 OVR
As briefly touched upon with Orsolini, wide players were few and far between this season. For that reason, inclusions likely need less justification, as I would still expect a couple of wingers in the side. Zaccagni has been one of Lazio’s main players, recording regular attacking returns. With eight goals and six assists, the Italian has been highly rated throughout the campaign by Gazzetta.
Moise Kean - ST - 78 > 93 OVR
With seventeen goals and three assists, Kean has been one of the standout players in Serie A this season. The Italian striker often showed promise at a young age but failed to deliver. Now playing his trade for Fiorentina, Kean is showing exactly why he was so highly rated during his younger years, performing on a consistent basis and, more importantly, scoring goals.
Mateo Retegui - ST - 76 > 94 OVR
With just five games left in the season, it would take something special to change the Golden Boot recipient. Retegui leads the way with an impressive twenty-three goals to his name. Atalanta remains competitive in Italy and looks set to finish third in this campaign, just short of both Napoli and Inter. Several Premier League sides have been keeping an eye on the Italian striker, who at just twenty-five years of age still has his best years ahead of him.
Substitutes
Amir Rrahmani - CB - 80 > 92 OVR
Whether both Napoli centre-backs make the side remains to be seen, but both certainly deserve recognition. With just twenty-five goals conceded this season, Napoli have been superb defensively throughout the campaign. Rrahmani has featured in all thirty-three matches, providing vital consistency at the heart of the backline. While Buongiorno has been receiving most of the plaudits, it’s Rrahmani who has quietly enabled that success with his reliability and presence.
Scott McTominay - CM - 78 > 91 OVR
It still seems a strange decision by Manchester United to sell McTominay. The Scotsman continues to impress for Napoli, with his goal threat continuing to grow. With nine goals from central midfield this season, he has played a key role for Napoli, finding a strong balance alongside Anguissa and often scoring important goals for the club. McTominay is also a popular player, so his inclusion would make sense for EA.
Tijjani Reijnders - CM - 82 > 91 OVR
To put it frankly, it has been a dreadful season for AC Milan, who currently sit down in ninth. While it would be easy to exclude them from these predictions, there are a couple of standout players and I would expect at least one of them to feature as a result. The favourite has to be Reijnders, who has ten goals and three assists from the middle of the park. Alternatively, we could see Pulisic, but the American narrowly misses out for me.
Marcus Thuram - ST - 83 > 94 OVR
Thuram’s early POTM card was hugely popular in the community. I would expect his TOTS inclusion to hold a similar status. The Frenchman has played a huge role in Inter’s season as they battle for top spot with Napoli. With fourteen goals and four assists, Thuram’s position in this side is guaranteed.
SBC/Objective/Moments
Ademola Lookman - CAM - 82 > 94 OVR
Lookman has established himself as one of the top talents in Serie A over the past couple of seasons. The Nigerian has continued to impress throughout the current campaign, recording thirteen goals and five assists, helping Atalanta secure a Champions League qualification spot for next season. It’s a completely different story compared to his struggles with Fulham in the Premier League.
Romelu Lukaku - ST - 82 > 92 OVR
There is a lot of competition for places among the Serie A strikers, with some big names likely to miss out. I do not think Romelu will fall into that category, though. With twenty goal contributions, including twelve goals and ten assists, he is among the highest contributors in the division, leading the Napoli front line superbly. Goals and assists from your main striker are exactly what you want.
Nuno Tavares - LB - 74 > 92 OVR
Tavares was simply phenomenal during the first half of the season, and although that level was never likely to continue throughout the full campaign, his overall performance has been enough to put him in contention for this side. The Lazio left-back has one goal and seven assists to his name, and while I don’t feel he quite makes the starting squad, a moments-type inclusion seems probable.
