The penultimate week of Team of the Season is here and whilst in previous years this might have been considered a relatively dead week, it’s something quite special. In fact, I would go as far as to say that in previous years we likely wouldn’t even see these leagues as a “main” release. But here we are! MLS & Saudi League TOTS are in packs and on the most part, this almost feels like a Flashback TOTS squad. Suarez, Ronaldo, Messi, Kante and so many more all lead the lineup with some elite-looking cards.
The SBC for today? Well EA have dropped two cracking SBCs in the form of Insigne and Mahrez! Both cards look like that could be decent so i’ll have to pick up both. But today we are here to discuss that Mahrez item and he looks like an absolute baller.
Mahrez has been no stranger to special cards this year, getting himself a Globetrotter and Grassroots Greats card. So a TOTS Honourable Mentions item only feels right. This TOTS item is a +6 on his previous special card with notably his physicals getting a nice boost by +18. This version also comes with the Finesse, Technical and First Touch playstyle pluses. Some real nice playstyle options. One thing off the bat I wish this card had would be the possibility to stat in the CAM role. I feel he looks incredibly well suited for that position. But regardless he looks like a great card to play in the attack.
I’ve opted for the Hunter as I wanted to boost the Pace and Shooting as much as possible with him playing up on the wing for me. This feels like the most popular choice for this card.
Here are the following segments to unlock the Team of the Season Honourable Mentions Toney SBC:
TOTW/TOTS Players: Min 1
Squad Rating: Min 86
# of players in squad: 11
Squad Rating: Min 87
# of players in squad: 11
Squad Rating: Min 88
# of players in squad: 11
Only 3 segments required to complete this SBC with a price tag of around 125k to complete. Not much to say here. It’s a real nice and easy SBC to complete and isn’t wildly expensive.
How did he perform in-game?
+ There’s no surprises in saying his dribbling was absolutely top tier. He controls the ball better than most and with having trickster in his back pocket he dribbles the ball with such style and ease.
+ Shooting felt pretty perfect for a winger. Having finesse allowed him to whip the ball in from outside the box or tuck it around the keeper when pressing into the box.
+ Passing as a whole was very impressive, however, I was a big fan of his whipped pass. It moved as such speed and precision. With the right man on the receiving end, it was lights out for the opposition.
- His pace is okay but I feel that’s largely supported by the hunter chemstyle. But he got caught up to quite often and isn’t what you would expect from a TOTS winger at this stage of the game
- Despite the boost, his strength is a big problem. He’s overpowered fairly easily and struggles to deal with the elite-level defenders.
Mahrez - Cop or Flop?
This Mahrez card is incredibly fun to play with. He’s so slick on the ball and for those skillers out there, you will have a blast with this card. But he isn’t a competitive item and there is certainly much better RW options out there. Ideally this card plays at CAM and he’s golden!
The saving grace is it’s only 3 segments in total and relatively cheap for this stage of the game. You more than likely have the fodder spare so if you’re looking for a fun item or just something to deposit your SBC storage into, this SBC is worth doing!
Verdict = COP
