FC 25 96 Shapeshifters Savinho Player Review! Cop or Flop

Day number two of the Shapeshifters Promo and I think the biggest news out of today is actually the mass amount of Portuguese players that just dropped after Portugal win the Nations Cup. Of course headlining these players is an incredible looking Cristiano Ronaldo. But these cards look out of this world.

Savinho is here as a Shapeshifter item in todays SBC release and I for one am excited to get my hands on this card. His Globetrotters item was an absolute staple of my squad for a good period of time, so I can only imagine this will be one hell of an item!

The upgrades from the Globetrotters item are significant. A +8 overall boost with a massive +30 to his physical stats and +16 to his shooting. This item is now a striker and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Of course, he comes with 4 playstyle pluses. At this stage, any card without it is going to be a big miss. He’s been boosted up to 5* skill moves but unfortunately did not get a boost in weak foot. The aforementioned playstyle pluses here are Technical, Quick Step, Tiki Taka and Low Driven. It’s worth noting he can also play in the CAM position and I mention that because it slightly feels like those playstyles are certainly more suited for the attacking midfield role. But let’s see how he performs at striker.

Initially, for Chemstyle I opted for the Hunter to absolutely max out the Pace and Shooting. However, after a game, I found a Maestro was more required to help with the dribbling alongside passing and shooting. This, for me, felt spot on.

5 segments in total to complete this SBC, with a price tag of just slightly over 300k to complete. Fairly similar to the David Beckham SBC from yesterday, but just a tad more expensive. I think the price tag is a little high on this SBC, especially with it being a Striker that doesn’t possess both Finesse and Low Driven plus. But let’s see how he performs in-game. 

How did he perform in-game?

+ It’s no surprise that his shooting was great. He has the Low Driven+ alongside standard finesse. But his low drivens simply did not miss and could not be stopped.

+ His passing was exceptional. Though I do feel that his passing ability made him more suited for the midfield role rather than a striker. 

+ His attack positioning however, was brilliant. Always making an early run to pick up those through balls between centre backs, which put him into easy space to score.

/ His dribbling was okay but it simply didn’t blow our mind. He has technical so can make some quick, snappy movements and control the ball under pressure. But for a 96-rated item, you would expect a little more.

/ Likewise for his Pace, despite having 96 pace and Quick Step plus. I really expected him to be much more rapid than he was. But quite often, the opposition was able to catch him up when running toward the box.

- Despite a huge boost to Strength, he still felt lacking in this department. Van Dijk made easy work of him when battling for the ball.

Savinho - Cop or Flop?

I really wanted this to live up to my expectations but he simply didn’t. As mentioned earlier, his playstyles feel more suited for the CAM role and for the price, there’s certainly a lot better CAM options for less. He didn’t impress or at the least feel like a top tier card which at this stage shouldn’t be difficult to do.

The price is the biggest let down here as there are endless options out there currently for a fraction of this price tag. Personally I would save your coins and fodder for some of the bigger cards that may come.
